Default North Bend, OR: Winsor Park work party, 3/13/10

NORTH BEND, Ore. - Disc Golf isn't new to the South Coast but the recently formed West Coast Flyers Club is. And by taking pride in their outdoor activity, members are cleaning up the course in North Bend this weekend.

Tucked behind the South side of the McCullough Bridge lies a 9-hole course. It's been in place for about 20 years now and the signs, baskets and tee-boxes have taken their fair share of abuse as folks filter in and out, whipping their discs into the chain-linked buckets.

Now with the help of local vendors and North Bend's Park and Recreation, the West Coast Flyers are revamping the site. But that means a few less holes for players to use during the process.

According to Club Member, "Doc" Neil Esteves, "Rather than replacing the basket, which is expensive, around $4,000 per basket, we can give it a face lift for a lot cheaper. And we're going to take two of the baskets away from the course at a time so we can sandblast them, primer them and paint them."

The first work party is this Saturday, March 13, starting at the course at 11 am. Anyone interested in participating or signing up with the West Coast Flyers can call Esteves at (541)269-9064.
